We are considering a vacation from Columbus, OH to LA. What is the cheapest airline or website to get it off of-that is not Jet blue.

The cheapest way (but only use if you don't care about exact dates/times and how many transfers) is to place a bid on www.priceline.com. The second cheapest way is to shop at either www.cheaptickets.com, www.expedia.com, or www.orbitz.com. They even offer tips on saving money by flying a day earlier or at a different time.

I strongly suggest you look into Skybus Airlines. Skybus is a new ultra-low-cost airline based in Columbus Ohio. They currently offer service to only a few cities, but fortunately for you, Los Angeles is one of those cities served. (well, it's actually Burbank that they serve, but the extra couple miles driving is worth it if you can land one of their special fares.) Later this summer, there are still fares available as low as $75 one way. If you plan even further ahead, fares on their routes can drop as low as $10 one way. I do have to warn you though, there is a trade off for the low fares on Skybus. They offer nothing for free in flight (not even free drinks), the cabin is extremely cramped, with no in flight entertainment, and being a new start up airline, their on time performance is slightly worse than most legacy airlines. If price is the only thing you're looking at though, Skybus definitely is a top choice. Southwest Airlines also offers flights from Columbus to a number of Los Angeles area airports (albeit not direct service.) They will have much more consistent service, although a slightly more expensive lowest fare. (yet still very cheap by most standards)

The answer is Skybus. www.skybus.com Skybus provides service to 8 destinations throughout the United States. On May 22, 2007, Skybus began flights from Port Columbus to its first three destinations, Burbank, California, Kansas City, Missouri, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On May 23, Skybus added its fourth destination when it began flying to Richmond, Virginia. The airline added three more destinations on May 29 when they began flying to Bellingham, Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Greensboro, North Carolina. Service to Oakland, California began on June 12, service to San Diego, California, and Chicopee, Massachusetts will begin on July 16, and service to St. Augustine, Florida will begin on July 18, 2007, which will bring Skybus' operations to twelve total cities and eleven destinations from Columbus. Advertised fares to all current target cities will begin at $10 one-way, although the price increases as more tickets are sold for that flight. Though the exact number of $10 tickets are not advertised, Skybus guarantees that a minimum of ten such tickets will be offered for each flight. Ticket prices for the remaining fares is expected to be around half the price of other airlines. These fares do not include taxes and other airport fees, however, which add around $10 to a one-way ticket. All fees included, the cheapest round-trip ticket for one adult will cost approximately $40. Good luck getting into their web site. They must be very busy.

united has some contracted companies that route through Chicago for flights from the east to the west and visa versa, they are United express and skywest, I got tickets for around the 4th of July and they where $80 cheaper roundtrip from LIncoln, ne to Manchester NH, total cost $323. I used priceline.com. Orbitz and travelocity had the same flights, but with priceline I did actually get them $37 dollars cheaper for round trip than the other two sites. but give them all a try, and bunch in economy flights, northwest has some good prices also for yur path of flight.

As others have pointed out The Sky Bus is a real deal, but, Southwest is always good on fares and if you purchase by a certain time before travel in can be lower. Also, they have senior fares if you qualify.
