The best advice it to give yourself extra time. Call your airline and see what their suggested arrival time is (international is usually two hours before departure for example). A great resource is http://waittime.tsa.dhs.gov/index.html it will tell you what the average wait time is to get through airport security at all U.S. airports by day and time. I always add an extra hour, just in case. I'd rather spend an extra hour at an airport than risk missing a flight because of traffic or other delays.
2 :
Columbus airport isn't that big. Just drive to the airport and follow the signs for the rental car return, and you'll be golden.

do you have any funny baseball related stories

do you have any funny baseball related stories?
so i went to yankee stadium by myself last may to see the yankees play the red sox. i had my jeter jersey shirt and yankees cap on during the flights back. on my 2nd flight from columbus ohio to st louis i flew with southwest where you have to pick you seats when you get in the plane. anyways, i chose a seat and some big guy says. " i dont think you should sit here..." i was like, "why not?" the man gets up and says "cause i'm a red sox fan." some man sat in between us and i was kinda freaked out that the red sox fan was going to murder me lol. it had to have been a sight seeing a red sox fan and a yankees fan seperated by a single person..

Yeah, I follow a local American Legion team and one year the manager said to an overweight umpire on a missed call, "I bet you wouldn't have missed it if it was a hamburger..."

i remember going to the old 3 rivers stadium in 91 or maybe 92', me and my cousin were younger at the time....me maybe 16 or 17 and my cousin maybe 14 and i pissed pirates reliever stan belinda off so bad he threw a cup of gatorade at me. i just laughed and told him he threw it about as hard as he throws a baseball. TRUE STORY !
3 :
The year is 1956. Bob Feller is pitching his last season for the Cleveland Indians. He is on the mound at Yankee Stadium facing the Yankees. Moose Skowron is at the plate. Feller rears back and throws three pieces of pure heat at the plate. Skowron never moves his bat and the ump calls him out on strikes. As Skowron leaves the batter's box he turns and says something to the ump. The ump replies and Skowron says something more as he heads for the dugout. Years later I found out what was said from Clete Boyer when he was a coach with the Oakland As: Skowron: Where was that last pitch? Ump: Just below the letters and in the zone. Skowron: It sounded kind of high.

When I was 12, I went to a Mariners vs Royals game in KC. We got there pretty early and the Royals were still taking batting practice. I got to my seat and set my jacket and glove down and took a quick trip to the bathroom. When I got back to my seat there was an older guy sitting in the seat directly behind me and he was holding a baseball. After I sat back down he taps me on the shoulder and we start talking: Him: "This your seat" Me: "yeah" Him: "while you were gone, George Brett was taking batting practice and hit this ball and it landed in your seat." Me: "no way" Him: "yep... and since you weren't sitting in your seat, I got it." This man preceded to tease me with the ball damn near the entire game. In the 7th inning a my dad called the stadium usher over and got the guy thrown out because he kept teasing me with the ball. at the end of the game the usher had me and my dad follow him over to the Royals dugout and he got George Brett to sign a ball for us. I got to hold that ball for the entire 90 minute drive home. Once we got home, my dad took the ball and I haven't touched it since. it's currently in a display case in my dad's house. so i didn't actually get either ball... but it was awesome to see that jerk getting escorted out of the stadium. and getting to shake George's hand.

I know there's no non-stop flight to columbus but is there anywhere nearer that does non-stop from london gatwick /heathrow ? Please help!(: If there is just name a state/near there or something. To help you know if it is non-stop check virgin alantic / british airways. http://www.britishairways.com/ http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/index.jsp

since you are a teen your Mom should contact your relatives and have one or more of them pick you up at the airport , if they send a driver to pick you up this person should have a card board large enough for you to see with your name printed on it , it all depends how far these people live from the airport ,they should be the ones responsible for you , don't start wondering about on your own . Your travel agent should also be the one to make sure that your trip will be smooth and could make arrangements from the UK with a Taxi or bus company ,I have seen many times the drivers holding a sign with the person's name on it I find it safe and reassuring .
2 :
The closest airport with a nonstop flight from the UK is Detroit, Michigan which is about 200 miles north of Columbus or about a 3.5 hr trip by road. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic don't fly to Detroit the only airline that does is Delta, one flight a day. It leaves London Heathrow (LHR) at 9:10am and arrives Detroit at 1:30pm, returning the flight leaves Detroit at 6:50pm and arrives LHR at 7:40am (next morning. You can book tickets thru their website, go to: http://www.delta.com
3 :
Lisa is absolutely correct, but I would think that a 15 year old could easily change planes in Detroit to catch a flight to Columbus. All you have to do once you exit the UK to Detroit flight is go to the nearest Departure Board (a huge TV screen listing all the inbound and outbound flight cities flight nos., times and gate nos.) There are many departure boards in the airport. Once you get the gate no., simply follow the million signs to your gate. Just don't book a real short layover, say, less than 90 minutes, to be safe. If you have too short of a layover and your UK-Detroit flight is late, you may not have enough time to catch your Columbus flight. Worst case, you may have a 30 minute walk to the gate, but you don;t want to cut it that close. You can also get a map of the Detroit airport on line.

domestic travel should NOT be above 1,000 dollars, I don't know what that person is talking about, I book with orbitz all the time. it's cheaper to fly out of Amarillo if you want to make the drive, 400 sounds about right it depends on when you travel

which is better? booking your flight with the cruise line or doing it yourself?
right now we have it booked with the cruise line flying out of columbus(which is were we live), and we'd only save a little to book flights ourselves unless we did it from the dayton airport.

Stick with the cruise line because there rates are often cheaper as they buy tickets in bulk. The other advantage is they will provide transportation for you right from the airport to the cruise terminal. I feel this is so worth it because it is hassle free. All you do when you get off the plane is look for someone holding up a sign with the name of the cruise company on it. They will then direct you to probably get your luggage and bring it to wherever they tell you. They load it up for you on a bus and off you go to the ship.

Are there any flights that go straight from Glenpool to Columbus, without any stops

Are there any flights that go straight from Glenpool to Columbus, without any stops?
Just wondering. Serious answers, please. Glenpool Oklahoma to Colmbus Ohio Oklahoma City or Tulsa could work too As could Dayton or Cincinatti, I suppose

1 :
Glenpool to any of those Ohio cities: No. OKC/Tulsa to Dayton: I would really doubt it. Southwest would really be the only possibility. I'm not going to bother checking their website because you can do it just as easily as I can. OKC/Tulsa to Cincinnati: I think this is the most likely. It will be on Delta, or not at all. CVG doesn't have the traffic today that it did a few years ago, though. I'd say odds are pretty good that one or both of these routes was operated in recent years and I wouldn't be particularly surprised if they were today. Give Delta's website a look.
2 :
There is no airport in Glenpool, so you will have to fly out of Tulsa. Delta Airlines has non-stop flights to Cincinnati. No one else operates flights to Columbus, Dayton, or Cincinnati.
3 :
No, but you can fly to close airports. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Cheapest airfare

Cheapest airfare?
I'm looking for the best deals on a round trip flight from columbus, ohio to los angeles. I'm military too, and I would leave the 28th and get back the 2nd. the cheapest I've been able to come up with is from expedia which is $800 and includes a hotel, this doesn't include any military discount though. Any help would be appreciated :)

I find going directly to an airlines site works the best for me, I keep an eye on it for a few days and quite often the price drops if the plane is not filling, you are also leaving on a Friday and the prices are always higher for weekend flights, try looking at the flights available on the 27th, that leave late in the evening. I would also suggest going to the airport and getting on a standby list, but being Christmas, the busiest flying season, it could take hours and hours. Have a great Holiday :)
3 :
I travel to Europe all the time . I live in Las Vegas. The cheapest way is going directly to your air carrier's website and order online . All of the travel websites work with a kind of commission , so you will always pay more .
4 :
Try Hotwire.com pretty good discounts but they are not flexible when it comes to changing your plans. Meaning no refunds if you change your mind or miss your flight.

Try this website http://benefits.military.com/discount-center/travel/home.do good luck)

Is a roundtrip flight in one day cheap

Is a roundtrip flight in one day cheap?
I am looking for a roundtrip from Columbus Ohio to Virginia Beach for June 20, and I want to return June 20 at night. I got a rate of $322 and thought this was high, is it? I figured a roundtrip all in one day would be cheaper.
Aircraft - 3 Answers

1 :
im not sure but i think a roundtrip would be more plus 322 is not a lot in the whole scheme of things
2 :
A round trip in a single day tends to be a full-fare economy ticket. It won't be cheap. I made the mistake of flying from Vancouver to San Francisco for the day once, a few years ago. The U.S. authorities were absolutely certain I was up to something, but couldn't figure out what.
3 :
The closer to the travel day, the higher the price... $322 is not an unusual amount... If you booked the flight 30 days in advance, would likely be much less...

As long as the parents sign off on you at the ticket counter as a UM (Unaccompanied Minor). You have to present valid photo ID at the check in, and at security. While the 17 yo might have that, the 14 does not. That's when the UM form will be requested.

why did my plane make an emergency landing

why did my plane make an emergency landing?
So i was on a flight from chicago to columbus ohio, very short flight, about 45 mins or so and like 30 minutes into the flight the pilot comes on and says were turning around, going back to chicago and making an emergency landing. i didnt notice anything though, no sudden drops or anything, everything seemed fine. im just curious as to why we had to make an emergency landing and why go all the way back to chicago when we were like 10 mins away from columbus. there was no bad weather in ohio thast day and also when we landed there was several fire trucks waiting for us there. it was kinda freaky but no one was ever told what was going on
Air Travel - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Maybe a warning light came on and the pilot was erring on the side of caution. He might've went back to Chicago because Columbus is a small airport, and might not have mechanics from that airline.
2 :
Going out on a limb here...but my guess would be that there was nothing wrong with the aircraft rather that there was extreme weather at Columbus airport and the pilot was not permitted to land. Was there bad weather on that day? Chicago was the closest and best airport no doubt, but I'm sure that they would have had to make some type of announcement on-board? You'd also know if it was an emergency landing as you would have had to have taken the brace position and you'd have been met by several emergency vehicles on the runway following the aircraft. If none of that happened then it was weather. Hope that makes you feel better :)
3 :
Whatever it was, the captain of the flight determined that something regarding the safety of the aircraft mandated a return to O'Hare Airport in Chicago (or Midway). It may have been something electronic or mechanical that could not be fixed in Columbus due to parts or no mechanics. Whatever the reason, it was serious enough to not land at Columbus. In situations like this, it is not really necessary for the passengers to know what the problem is, as many things on a jet airliner don't make any sense at all to the average passenger. Regards, Dan
4 :
Possibly the captain's girlfriend was left behind and he had to go back for her. Sounds more like bad weather or other problem on the ground at your destination - not allowed to land. Coulda been a sick passage, drunk passenger... hundreds of things. Unfortunately we're not always told - actually, make that very rarely told anything near the truth.

Try Southwest.com I have found VERY good prices when you buy ur tickets ahead of time,
3 :
The cheapest way (but only use if you don't care about exact dates/times and how many transfers) is to place a bid on www.priceline.com. The second cheapest way is to shop at either www.cheaptickets.com, www.expedia.com, or www.orbitz.com. They even offer tips on saving money by flying a day earlier or at a different time.
4 :
I strongly suggest you look into Skybus Airlines. Skybus is a new ultra-low-cost airline based in Columbus Ohio. They currently offer service to only a few cities, but fortunately for you, Los Angeles is one of those cities served. (well, it's actually Burbank that they serve, but the extra couple miles driving is worth it if you can land one of their special fares.) Later this summer, there are still fares available as low as $75 one way. If you plan even further ahead, fares on their routes can drop as low as $10 one way. I do have to warn you though, there is a trade off for the low fares on Skybus. They offer nothing for free in flight (not even free drinks), the cabin is extremely cramped, with no in flight entertainment, and being a new start up airline, their on time performance is slightly worse than most legacy airlines. If price is the only thing you're looking at though, Skybus definitely is a top choice. Southwest Airlines also offers flights from Columbus to a number of Los Angeles area airports (albeit not direct service.) They will have much more consistent service, although a slightly more expensive lowest fare. (yet still very cheap by most standards)
5 :
The answer is Skybus. www.skybus.com Skybus provides service to 8 destinations throughout the United States. On May 22, 2007, Skybus began flights from Port Columbus to its first three destinations, Burbank, California, Kansas City, Missouri, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. On May 23, Skybus added its fourth destination when it began flying to Richmond, Virginia. The airline added three more destinations on May 29 when they began flying to Bellingham, Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Greensboro, North Carolina. Service to Oakland, California began on June 12, service to San Diego, California, and Chicopee, Massachusetts will begin on July 16, and service to St. Augustine, Florida will begin on July 18, 2007, which will bring Skybus' operations to twelve total cities and eleven destinations from Columbus. Advertised fares to all current target cities will begin at $10 one-way, although the price increases as more tickets are sold for that flight. Though the exact number of $10 tickets are not advertised, Skybus guarantees that a minimum of ten such tickets will be offered for each flight. Ticket prices for the remaining fares is expected to be around half the price of other airlines. These fares do not include taxes and other airport fees, however, which add around $10 to a one-way ticket. All fees included, the cheapest round-trip ticket for one adult will cost approximately $40. Good luck getting into their web site. They must be very busy.
6 :
yes it is skybus. its new airline but some way tickets cost just 10$. they do operate out of Columbus but i dont know if they fly into LA
7 :
united has some contracted companies that route through Chicago for flights from the east to the west and visa versa, they are United express and skywest, I got tickets for around the 4th of July and they where $80 cheaper roundtrip from LIncoln, ne to Manchester NH, total cost $323. I used priceline.com. Orbitz and travelocity had the same flights, but with priceline I did actually get them $37 dollars cheaper for round trip than the other two sites. but give them all a try, and bunch in economy flights, northwest has some good prices also for yur path of flight.
8 :
As others have pointed out The Sky Bus is a real deal, but, Southwest is always good on fares and if you purchase by a certain time before travel in can be lower. Also, they have senior fares if you qualify.

My connecting flight via Northwest was cancelled. Can I recover the cost of rerouting

My connecting flight via Northwest was cancelled. Can I recover the cost of rerouting?
I had to fly to Cleveland instead of Columbus and find a ride home. It will also cost me an extra day of parking in Columbus and the cost of driving there to recover my car. Do I have any recourse?
Air Travel - 2 Answers

1 :
It depends on who with connecting flight was with and who booked it. If you booked (or a travel agent) the connecting flight with a different airline, one that doesn't share codes, then you are out of luck. Northwest is only resposible to get you where they have agreed to, not somewhere else. However if it was a Northwest flight or a code sharing partner, they are required to get you to your original destination by federal law. If that is the case, you have a very good chance at getting all of your costs reimbursed. Contact a Northwest rep and file a claim.
2 :
If you were ticketed through all together on one flight PNR (ie, 1 ticketed flight itinerary), then the airline does not have any liability if they get you to your destination within 4 hours of the original scheduled arrival time. After 4 hours, then the big compensation kicks in--such as putting you on another airline even if first class is all that's availble, etc. If you chose to forego the final flight segment which they re-routed you with (I'm guessing), then that was your choice to forego any compensation.

If it's a domestic flight you need to be check in at least 1 1/5 hours before your flight and be at the gate 10 or 15 minutes before boarding.
2 :
Domestic flight...I would say an hour is fine at that time of the morning. So try to get there around 6am or a little before. The guy above me is wrong. You can normally check in up to 30 mins from your flight. Interntional cut-off is 1 hour.
3 :
As a general rule you should give yourself a 2 hour window. most airlines ask that you arive 2 hrs early. Have a great flight.
4 :
If you know what you're doing an hour should be more than enough. If you're new to this I'd say two hours just to be sure and not be under all kinds of pressure. A flight like that must have cost a fortune, I would deffinetly be on the side of caution as to not miss that flight though.
5 :
If you want to see what the expected security wait times are, here's the TSA link that will show you the average wait times in security lines (based on airport, time of day and day of the week) http://waittime.tsa.dhs.gov/index.html Also, to save even more time, you can check-in online the day before and print your boarding pass. If you airport offers sky cap, use them and you'll be zippin' through the airport in no time. I would recommend no less than 1 hour pre-flight arrival.
6 :
The normal advice is to be standing in line at the check-in counter 2 full hours before your flight is scheduled to depart. However, 90 minutes should be OK for a flight that early. DON'T try to shave it closer than that, if only because you risk having problems due to traffic delays on the way to the airport. Once you check-in go through security (don't wait). Be at your gate 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Hope you have a good trip.
7 :
3 hours before flights becuase theres a lot of people at the airport especially fri-sun nd u mite miss the flight
8 :
No earlier than 5am. Probably more like 5.30am.
9 :
i would say u should get there at 3:55 am because it takes time to check in and go through security and getting to the terminal/gate. all that adds up to time.

Skybus to and from Columbus, OH & Greensboro, NC

Skybus to and from Columbus, OH & Greensboro, NC?
I'm planning on a weekend getaway to Greensboro, NC. I live in Columbus, OH. I was wondering if anyone's taking this flight often? I'm no so much concerned with anything except flight cancelations. Do they cancel their flights often? And if they do cancel, do we get our money back?
Other - United States - 1 Answers

All airlines do cancel flights, but Skybus does not do it 'often'. There are mainly weather delays. The delays can be up to 3 hours. If they do cancel the flight, you have a choice. You can get a refund, or you can rebook on an flight with in the next few days. You must rebook either at the airport kiosk, or at home on the Internet. You might NOT get on the next flight, if there are not seats available. The BEST idea is to get the early flight. If there is a slight delay in the morning, sometimes it gets bigger and bigger during the day, and the evening flight will have a longer delay. Also IF they do cancel the morning flight, there is a chance you can get the evening flight.

USAirways no Continental, yes on longer flights, so you may get one on the first leg/ Certainly not on the Embraer I dont know why a professional travel agent with years of experience would claim otherwise, but here is the Continental website page regarding meals. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/inflight/dining/domestic/default.aspx

Not sure about Continental, but US Airways serves meals on flights 3 hours or more. Drinks are served on all flights

Domestic airlines no longer serve meals for free. They ones over 4 hours will usually offer food for purchase but that is all.

6 :
I dont know why someone is saying Continental doesnt have meals. I had one just last week on a flight from San Diego to Houston. It was a pasta dish that was actually pretty good.
7 :
Continental is the only airline that still serves meals on their flights longer than 4 or 5 hours. US Airways does not serve meals. You can purchase food from that airline.

how much snow does it take to delay or cancel a flight

how much snow does it take to delay or cancel a flight?
i'm supposed to be flying out tomorrow to dallas from columbus ohio.. but tonighht we are expected to get 3-8 inches of snow on top of what we already have and i have to drive 2 hours north to get to the airport?? so i was wonder how much snow is too much? and should i even bother packin my bags? i'm in ashland KY..

Pack, you never know. It depends how flying conditions are, and what the whether is like at the destination. Be on the safe side and get ready to go.
2 :
I would think that you should be okay, but it all depends on how much snow you already have on the ground
3 :
its not the amount of snow, but rather turbulence in the air and slickness of the runways. so it really depends. i dont think it will be icy in ohio (im in kentucky). just stay tuned to your local news and the airports internet site to keep informed of cancellations
4 :
I don't know how much snow to cancel a flight but pack your bags so if it doesn't snow hard enough
5 :
Chances are your flight won't be cancelled, though it might be delayed. Columbus is a fairly major airport, and they'll likely plow things out fairly quickly. If you're on a non-stop flight to Dallas, you'll probably go out as soon as they've got things clear. If you're transferring somewhere (Chicago, Atlanta, or wherever), it will depend on what the weather's like in the hub city. Unfortunately they won't make the decision to delay or cancel until close to your departure time. You have to assume you're flying and get to the airport assuming you'll be on time.
6 :
There is not a specific amount of snow that they will cancel a flight for - there are many factors that are involved in order to cancel a flight, ie. visibility, turbulence, runway conditions, etc.. I would suggest that you pack your bags and get ready to travel

I need help finding an affordable flight

I need help finding an affordable flight?
I need two round trip tickets to Phoenix, AZ, March 26 and return on April 4th. I have tried every place I know but I cant find a flight for under $800 and I just cant afford that. I'm asking for help finding this flight, if you can please send me the link. I can fly out of Huntington WV or Columbus OH wichever is cheaper. Thank You!

If you are flying out of a small regional airport then you will pay more regardless of what source you use. Best advice I can give you is if you can fly out of Cincinnati, Charleston, Pittsburgh, or Louisville you may find that you save allot more. Otherwise if you are going to fly out of one of those two airports then you will have to accept that the demand for either Huntington or Columbus is low thereby meaning higher airfares.
2 :
On the dates you wish to travel there are return direct flights, between Port Columbus Airport (CMH) & Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport (PHX), available with US Airways for £229.50p (approx. $364.334) including taxes. Cheaper indirect flights are available with Southwest or Delta. http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/cmh/phx/110326/110404/airfares-from-port-columbus-to-phoenix-sky-harbor-in-march-2011-and-april-2011.html
3 :
Try kayak.com, they show a non-stop r/t flight including all taxes and fees on US Airways for $309 from Columbus. You can follow the link and book directly with US Airways. They also list many other airlines that have the flight for much less than $800. Don't wait to book the flight, that price may not last long. http://www.kayak.com/
4 :
I would start with Southwest Airlines and see if they have anything out of Columbus. Look at Cleveland and Akron as well and see if you can find anything cheap. AirTran flies out of Akron. You can also see if Pittsburgh has anything. Southwest and AirTran both fly out of that city.

Need the cheapest place to get a flight from Canada to US

Need the cheapest place to get a flight from Canada to US?
My mother-in-law is flying here from Moncton, New Brunswick in Canada into Dayton, Cincinnati, or Columbus, Ohio. Is it better to get a fight directly from a site like Air Canada or is there a cheaper way?

Air Canada is your best bet. You can try FareCompare.com or Priceline to see what they come up with. The issue to consider with Priceline is getting a red-eye flight which makes the trip harder (loss of sleep, etc).
2 :
Try Orbitz or a link from the page below
3 :
priceline.com is great

5 :
check www.travelocity.com Cincinnati is very expensive, I'd go for Dayton or Columbus. Check the rates for the dates you want on travelocity, then go directly to the website of the carrier and check their price for the same flight. Often it's a little cheaper that way.
6 :
The best bet possible will be Air Canada, American Airlines, also flies there, there are many possibilities, You may want to check amazon. travel zoo, on line companies and get quotes, then if like, but fell uncomfortable doing it on line. Call a local travel agency, and compare rates. But would suggest to book with a qualified agency, that displays I A T A , and also Province travel membership. Your travel agent friend.

What is the cheapest way to get from Columbus, Ohio to Italy

What is the cheapest way to get from Columbus, Ohio to Italy?
Hi everyone. I am an Ohio State student interested in visiting Italy this summer (2011). Money is a huge issue, so I am looking for the cheapest way to get there. I have heard that flying into Europe somewhere besides Italy and catching a train is cheaper than a direct flight. Can someone please provide advice/guidance as to how to get there as cheap as possible? It would be greatly appreciated!

The best way is to go onto orbitz.com choose the flexable plans link near the bottom. it will give you a 30 day price range. You can put in how long you want to go as well. You can put in different airports. I heard that going to london and taking the train to italy is a little cheaper. but i hope you have an extra 4 days for that (2 there , 2 back). Need pass port of course. good luck

How much do entry-level Skybus flight attendants make

How much do entry-level Skybus flight attendants make?
Specifically, I'm looking for information about Skybus employees working out of the Columbus, Ohio airport. Also, how much of their salary is expected to come from commission on sales?

Skybus is getting a horrible name in the industry. Paying their employees crap wages (I'm a pilot- most pilots hate Skybus with a passion because of this) is not a good approach. I wouldn't work there personally and would recommend giving it a second thought if I were you. As for your question though... I've heard one of the biggest complaints by customers is the constant barrage of sales attempts by FA's. I've also heard most aren't making great money on commission at all.

How much does it cost to get a Pilot's license in Columbus Ohio

How much does it cost to get a Pilot's license in Columbus Ohio?
Assuming I get a simulator on my computer and can perfect flight on that and also home-school my ground school. So my question is on top of that how much would it cost for me to be able to fly a) in clear skies b) cloudy skies. Also how long would this take, I am a fast learner.
Aircraft - 1 Answers

A simulator on your computer is great for familiarizing yourself with various procedures, but you cannot log that experience toward a pilot rating unless it is an FAA approved training device and you receive dual instruction in it from a Certified Flight Instructor. Only a portion of the total flight time required to get your pilot ratings may be accomplished in a simulator. If you are a good student, it will take you about 100 hours to earn a Private Pilot license with an Instrument Rating (40-50 hours training for each). Of that, perhaps 1/4 could be done in a simulator. If you took a one hour lesson 5 days per week you could finish these two ratings in about 6 months. I've helped people get both ratings in as little as two months. The cost would be in the neighborhood $6,000-$7000 for the Private Pilot course and $7000 for the Instrument course at Capital City Aviation in Columbus. See http://www.capitalcityaviation.com and click the link to "our flight training" EDIT: p.s. I don't know who the idiot is that gave the thumbs down for my answer, but I know exactly what I'm talking about and you obviously don't. I do not participate in Yahoo Answers for the points, which are worthless, I do it because I like helping people out and I have the education, training and experience to fully back up my answers. Boo, hiss...

2 :
7.5 hours.
3 :
you will probably have a lay over in NY or some place like that but if it was non-stop I would think about 5 to 6 hours
4 :
26 hours
5 :
probably 2-3 hours. depends on wether u make any stops.
6 :
The most expensive price would be a 10 hour flight. There is lots of connections since Columbus isnt a city that flies out to Paris often, If you want something cheap, it takes about 18hours, tons of connections.
7 :
I am hearing the absolute craziest answers! Definitely not 3 days, and definitely not 2-3 hours. Not 7.5 hours, because that how long it takes to go from New York. It's definitely not 26 hours either. That's how long it took me to fly from New York to Sydney, Australia, 3X the length!! And 10 hours is probably the closest from the travel agent, but that is incorrect too, it does not take 2.5 hours to get from Columbus to New York. The real answer is approximately 8 hours 50 mins. to 9 hrs 10 min, if it is direct. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights, so your only option is with a connection in New York, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, Atlanta, Miami and other cities that have flight to Paris.

Ah, my favorite flight... good old Newark to Columbus. If you want to go non-stop, Continental is the only one that does that city pair so expedia, Contintental's own site... its all the same. If you don't mind connecting, US Airways connects through Charlotte and I have seen similar pricing through most of the internet sites and is about $30-40 cheaper than Continental. If you don't mind the hassle and prefer cheaper over easier, I take the drive to Philly and take SouthWest to Columbus. Great deals, but it is 2 hours from Northern NJ so quite a pain. Less miliage, but a bigger pain in the butt is taking Delta out of LaGuardia. I think I have found the best price on them directly on their website. Have a good flight and do me a favor please... bring me the following: pizza bagels taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich a dirty water hot dog Columbus is a great city, but I miss my NY/NJ food!

How much would a flight to Japan cost

How much would a flight to Japan cost?
Hey guys, I'm thinking about saving up for a flight to Japan and probably stay for a week(or a month depending on how much money I can save up or find a cheap place to stay). How much would a ticket cost me to fly there from Columbus, OH to ...lets say Tokyo, that seems like the best place to start. What should I wear on a plane flight

What should I wear on a plane flight?
Hiii :D I'm traveling from Los Angeles to Columbus, Ohio with a connection in Denver. And I'm only 15, and it's my first trip flying by myself. What should I wear on the flight? And I'm leaving straight from summer school to the airport, so I'm gonna have to wear the same thing to school and on the plane. Thanks!
Air Travel - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
As a 15 year old you know what is confortable for you to wear and you can wear that. Always keep a spare dress in your hand baggage so that in an emergency you can use it during the flight or at the transit point.
2 :
I'd suggest clothing. Avoid an ammo belt however. If you're looking to join the mile high club, wear a skirt or a dress.
3 :
I always travel in a tee shirt, flip flops, and jeans, you just have to take your belt off and put it through the scannner, these clothes never give my any problems.
4 :
I always wear a comfortable hoodie, jeans and some flip flops. It's comfortable, you can take off the hoodie if you get too hot and you can keep it on if your too cold. Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in and what you feel happy walking around the airport. Happy flying!
5 :
Basically, there's no rule about what you should wear. Most important: do wear something that is comfortable so you can relax and enjoy the flight as much as possible. And do avoid any of those "no-no's" listed by the TSA - you don't want to face their harrasssment, believe me!
6 :
if its goign to be hot, dont wear jeans. they'll be particularly uncomfortable if the weather is warm! I like to wear 3/4 length black leggings and a shortish dress with ballet flats, and wear a nice cardigan. Make sure though that you wear layers, so you can add / take off layers if you get too hot or cold.
7 :
I usually get cold on airplanes, especially sitting by the window. Just wear what's comfortable for you at home, but also maybe bring an extra jacket that you can either wear or put over your legs on the plane if you get cold, or use as a pillow if you don't get cold.
8 :
i like that "justin w" guy's answer ;D just something commmfffyyy!! or, you could do what i had said, and wear that awesome suit you wore for the debate. that'd be sooo cool :]]
9 :
The number one rule is to be comfortable. Avoid clothes with high amounts of metal. I've seen women go through security with clothes that have massive amounts of metal attached to the clothing that sets off the metal detectors every time, and they have to go through the secondary screening process.

Choose one that flies to locations you would like to visit. The airline will send you to school!
2 :
Yes.
3 :
Most airlines have their own training program that they will put you through. Email me for more info if you'd like. :) It's a great job, and a lot of fun!
4 :
People are constantly asking me, "Which is the best airline to work for?" Because of all the variables involved, I can't answer that question for you without more information; you have to answer it for yourself. I can give you some guidelines to consider when choosing the airline you would most like to work for. LOCATION: Do you want to remain living where you currently reside? If so, you should look for airlines that have a domicile in your town. While there is no guarantee that you will be based there right out of training, you will at least have that option in the future. If they don't have a domicile in your town, then you will always have to commute to your domicile to begin your workday, and may even have to travel there the day before and spend the night in a hotel at your own expense, just to ensure you can check-in for your working flight on time. Or are you ready to explore new places and new locales? Perhaps you've always wanted to live in New York City, but knew you would never be able to afford to move there without first having a job. You could select airlines that have flight attendant bases in JFK, EWR, LGA or ISP. All these airports would be within reach of the New York City area. SCHEDULE: Do you want to be home every night, if possible, and not spend any nights away from home? Do you have children or spouses/family/significant others who you want to spend as much time with as possible? Then you would want to concentrate on the Regional carriers that usually have shorter runs, and fewer overnights. If travel is what you desire, then the larger international airlines or charter airlines would be a better choice. Their longer trips and foreign destinations will give you more layovers and interesting destinations. You may be gone for longer periods of time, but you will be seeing parts of the world that your friends can only dream of. SKILLS: Do you speak a foreign language? Then choose the airlines that fly to destinations where your language skills would be an asset. If you're a resident alien from Germany, you might choose an airline with flights to Germany so you can easily visit your relatives. INTERESTS: Are you a South American history major? Do you collect Asian Art? Are you a professional surfer, rock climber, runner or biker? All these are things to consider when choosing your ideal airline. Once you have chosen the airlines that best meet your desires, you can go to their websites and investigate the companies further and refine your choice. HIGHEST PAID: This is actually the last reason to choose an airline. As stated throughout this guide, there are no guarantees in this industry. You may start working for the airline that pays its Flight Attendants the highest salary in the industry, only to have your salary reduced by cutbacks or pay cuts due to slumps in the industry, bankruptcy or corporate takeover. If you live in an area with a low cost of living, and choose an airline that pays more, but requires you to live in an area with a high cost of living, such as New York City, or San Francisco- then your higher salary is being lost to your food and lodging. Keep in mind that just because an airline pays more, doesn't necessarily mean it's a better company to work for. So which is the best airline to work for? The one that you choose to best satisfy your personal needs, skills, and interests.

You would be better off bringing your own snack or buying something in the airport to take on board. You have a quick breakfast flight and they may be out of your food choice.

What dates are u looking to travel? I know alot of sites.
3 :
Gives us the dates and times, I can find you a real bargain!
4 :
try delta.com or any other airlines
5 :
Actually it's probably cheapest to go directly through the airlines directly. I always check the expedia.com or one of those sites and then I see which airline has the cheapest flight, and then I go to that airline's website and pick the same flights and 99% of the time I get the same price. Plus most of those sites charge a "booking fee" of $5 or more. And some airlines at least will guarantee that you'll find the cheapest fares on their website - I know American Airlines does and probably most other major airlines. Also check the "low-fare" carriers - they only have their tickets on their own website. Although they're not always the cheapest - JetBlue is always kinda expensive (I hear they're nice though) and Southwest Airlines just sucks.

Cheap way to get from columbus Ohio to near ottawa or montreal

Cheap way to get from columbus Ohio to near ottawa or montreal?
I need to get a family of 4 from Columbus OH to a town in between Ottawa and Montreal in August. Willing to drive to another airport for departing flight. Also willing to drive 6 hours after landing if the flight is in the $200 range. Problem is that right now the Columbus to Montreal or Ottawa flights are >$400 or $500. Thoughts?

I guess you could fly from Columbus to Albany NY, then drive up to Montreal... the flight is less than 200, and the distance between Albany to Montreal is under 4 hours.
2 :
Why waste your time getting to the airport, waiting there, hoping the plane leaves on time, and waiting for your luggage to come off the plane then leaving trying to find your rental car, waiting there for them to tell you it will just be a few more minutes .You should just drive the entire way. You are willing to drive 6 hours after the flight so just add on another 4 to 5. It might be 11 hours but it will be less hassle, not much more time, and you get the chance to spend time with your family. And it won't cost you $2000.00 in tickets. Below is a link to Air Canada. You will then have to rent a car to get where you are going. !!

elevation of aircraft

elevation of aircraft?
why do pilots fly at 30,000 feet? if im taking a flight from columbus to st.louis, there is nothing above 1,000feet between here and there.no need to be at 30,000 feet

Besides there being storms and nasty winds there is other aircraft.
2 :
For one thing, it reduces the risk of impacting anything living, including birds and other avian animals. In a post-September 11th world and even in a pre-September 11th world, it also reduces the risk of impacting a building or other aircraft. It also, in the event of an emergency gives pilots a longer time to react and compensate. Not to mention: It's really nice up there, from what I've heard.
3 :
planes use less fuel at higher altitude and safety considerations as well
4 :
A couple of reasons simply put Firstly jet engines are more efficient at altitude, therefore less fuel is used, and secondly due to the thinner air up there the actual speed across the ground is significantly faster than what the aircraft is actually sensing, therefore you get there quicker. Also as said, it tends to be less turbulent, however high level winds can be very strong and can hinder of help you.
5 :
i want to fly a SR-71 at full throttle at 2,000ft over my house
6 :
Better fuel economy
7 :
And even higher. All things considered, it's more efficient for a jet aircraft to fly at a higher altitude. It's more efficient for a piston engined aircraft to fly at a lower altitude.
8 :
Quite simply, aircraft operate more efficiently at altitude. The ride is much smoother at altitude as well. Flying that route at 1,000 feet would be an extremely rough ride and would burn 2 - 3 times as much fuel than at 30,000 feet. Also, at 30,000 feet, if something were to go seriously wrong the typical airliner could glide without power for 60 to 100 miles -- more than far enough to make a safe power-off landing. At 1,000 feet, the glide would be less than 3 miles; you'd have to land on a highway or worse, in a forest. Also, at 1,000 feet the chance of hitting a bird are dramatically higher than at altitude. Impact with a bird at cruise speed can be catastrophic. Lastly, below 10,000 feet, aircraft are limited to 250 knots. An airliner can't fly efficiently at that speed. Typical crusie speed is much closer to 400 knots, or higher. So, as you can see, there are many reasons for flying at 30,000 feet -- or higher.
9 :
Because you are tword the top of the atmosphere so you are clear of any possible weather and also because you are clear of any traffic taking off or landing under you or anyone flying below you (cessna's etc.)
10 :
The aircraft is more efficient at higher altitudes so it burns less fuel, as well as the air seems to be less turbulent at the higher altitudes making your trip more enjoyable.

Does anyone know what the military discount for southwest airlines is

Does anyone know what the military discount for southwest airlines is?
I'm tryin to get the lowest flight cost from Columbus Ohio to Chicago Illinois and the lowest web price is $86 dollars, but I'm in the military and tight on money so I'm trying to find out how much of a discount Southwest offers. The website says you can only find out by phone, and mine has not been working. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

They aren't published, so no one really knows. You will have to continue tying to call Southwest, and sew what they can offer you. Good luck!
2 :
Maybe the military people were entering into the security checkpoint at airport terminal while showing the military in the United States from Middle East (Iraq or Saudi Arabia) since December 2010 until Christmas...
3 :
I am not sure, but u can try this site, it may have more info :) http://goodtraveloffers.com
4 :
Yes, Southwest does off Military Discounts. The thing about Military Discounts is that they may not beat the deals that are currently being offered. But, military discounts through the airlines are pretty good for short notice ticket purchases. by the way, 86 bucks seems like a heck of a deal. There is a good number for them on the link in my sources. I did a test call today and it worked.

Are you able to customize your flights

Are you able to customize your flights?
I will be flying into Columbus round-trip over the holidays - where my family is. The departing flight I want though leaves from Columbus to Cleveland as a connecting flight then back to where we live. My boyfriend's family lives in Cleveland, so is there anyway that we can just pick up the departing flight in Cleveland and avoid the initial flight out of Columbus without any penalties? Thanks!

No. If you're not on the originating flight, you can expect the remainder of your itinerary to be canceled. Book what you actually want/intend to fly.

No, if you do not show up for the first leg of your trip then the remainder of that journey will be cancelled. I have disappointed many people when they come to check in thinking they can hop on in the middle of their itinerary.

I think Delta Airlines is opening up a route to Accra. You would connect through Atlanta, GA though. Try www.delta.com. If that does not work, try the major internet travel sites such as www.expedia.com or www.travelocity.com.
2 :
Unless yopu are an American citizen you cannot travel from Ghana to the US one-way.

Hi baddrose268. A website which I rely a lot to check international flights is the Airwise travel site, since it shows flights from many airlines at once instead of researching one-by-one. The link to this webpage is: http://travel.airwise.com/schedules/index.html You just need to enter your departure airport code or city name, as well as the arrival airport/city, and a depart date (no need to type any data in the return date fields if your flight is one way). As an example of the data shown in the website, if you were to fly from Accra to Columbus next Tuesday, October 17th, you would take National Airlines flight 122 from Accra to New York (JFK) where you would connect with Comair's (Delta Connection) flight 5072. The departure flight is scheduled at 11:30 am (local) and the arrival at 10:09 pm. Hope this helps.

The Port Columbus Airport website and Flightstats websites both have real-time flight departure and arrival information. You can check today's flights to get an idea of which flights will arrive and depart on the 31st and then check them in real time on the 31st. www.port-columbus.com www.flightstats.com

Why are flight costs so much higher when the departure city is the hub of a major airline

Why are flight costs so much higher when the departure city is the hub of a major airline?
This is for my marketing class - answers from people who work in the travel industry would be especially helpful! Many Americans use round-trip, one-day air travel for business purposes. Prices for these and many other flights vary dramatically, depending on the city of departure. For example, if the departure city is a hub of a major airline, consumers can expect to pay more than they would from a nearby city. In October 2006, a day trip on Delta Airlines from Cincinatti (a Delta hub) to Washington D.C. and back cost $1,038.60. A flight to Washington D.C. from Columbus, Ohio, two hours northeast of Cincinatti, cost $274.71. This is $763.89, or 78 percent less. ***The question is: What is the reason for this cost difference?

I don't work for the travel industry, so I really don't know. I find the super cheap fares are often ones going to/from the airline's hubs. I think these are just sales to fill the seats. But yes, I have seen what you're talking about: the fare being lower from a nearby city that actually connects through the hub anyway. My only guess is maybe at the hub, it is nonstop, so the airline thinks they have your business already. At the non-hub airport, you will have to connect anyway, so now the airline is competing with other airlines for your business. So from Columbus, you can choose to go with northwest, connecting in Detroit, or United connecting in Chicago. Delta lowers their fare to compete. I don't know anything about marketing. It's just a guess.
2 :
That's not true on all hub city travel---for example, USAir PHX to ATL (hub to hub) is only $300. What's more important is where the traveller might go after they reach the hub. There's only a few cities in the US where airlines fly nonstops to Europe, Asia or other super-long-hauls. All other passengers need to reach that hub by a connecting flight in order to meet their plane to Europe. Airlines make a lot more profit on the International flights than on most domestic flights, and they want those planes full. So they will often discourage anyone from flying to the hub when it might cause an International passenger not to get a seat. So your example of Cincinnati-DC (and I am guessing it was Dulles), they would rather save the seat on that plane in case someone connecting onward to London wanted/needed it than fill it with a passenger who is ending up in DC. Do a google/yahoo search for "hidden city ticketing" and that might explain it a bit better. And it's not just for International flights--- you see the same thing for certain domestic routes--- but you do see it more with the International hub cities. If you want a shock, try pricing a flight with USAir from DC-Dulles to Philly--- a short hop, between two International airports--- not even 200 miles each way with an amazing $550 price tag. They do NOT want your butt in this seat unless you are buying the segment as part of a bigger package.
3 :
Was this a one time thing or is it regularly? Airline raise fares as the flight fills up, and lower them if it is not filling up. So you may have someone sitting next to you who paid half as much as you. The flight from Cincinnati may have had only one seat left while the flight from Columbus may have had 20 seats left.
4 :
There's much less competition in hub cities, so airlines often will charge more there and subsidize travel from other locations. Interestingly, it can often be cheaper to originate from another city, connect at the hub, and then continue to a destination, than to fly straight from the hub to the destination. A big example of this is Minneapolis, the major hub for Northwest Airlines. It can be hundreds of dollars cheaper to fly from nearby airports like Rochester, even though it will still be on a Northwest flight and still connect at MSP.

I heard there was a glitch in the air traffic control computers. Maybe that's the reason. Or maybe no one wanted to go to Columbus.

It's Columbus, nobody wants to go to Columbus.
